"ILIAD" ignorance, Trading fundas and Freddy :(

“If they ever tell my story let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses. Let them say I lived in the time of Achilles.”

- Odysseus

That was the ending quote of the movie “Troy” and I was fascinated in a very funny way. I didn’t find a single moment in the movie that really moved me. Somewhere I have this thought that I missed the point in the story of “Iliad”. Obviously there must have been something in the writings of Homer that touched so many over so many centuries ;) I intend to watch it a few times and hopefully I will see what I missed till now :(

Another fascinating snippet that I picked was from a book of selected Lee Kaun Yew interviews. One quote was attributed to Queen Elizabeth’s office which declined the author’s request for a quote as the Queen prefers not to make any public comment about any living person.

Then my trading is not quite setting Six Capital on fire. I have made profits everyday but that was more due to my strategy founded on chance. Ideally good trading is all about waiting for the right movements and capturing them. One of the tendencies to avoid is to overtrade and execute orders before you read firm signals. One of the strategies I had envisioned was to limit the number of trades to 15 in a 5 hour trading period. The idea was that I would spend more time identifying better entries and consequently have a better quality of trades.

So I started the trades with all the noble intentions and within a matter of 30 mins I had already executed 10 trades. By the time I hit 14 I spoke aloud that I wont repeat my mistakes and stated my tall claims to Ravi. But before he or me could blink our eyes my trade count was 48 :(

Then Freddy Lim is my colleague at work. He is the pillar of our operations. Unfortunately he reminds me of the Oscar Wilde quote “It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious” in a not so charming way.

Freddy has a few routines to follow and I have been tasked to make some process improvements. Unfortunately for me Freddy feels that my intervention is going to increase work for him and despite my repeated assertions to the contrary I found it a bit tedious to make the point across. Thankfully I have persisted and I am pushing pretty hard. But what’s more gladdening is that I have been doing so in a way that’s constructive and not disrespectful of Freddy :)
