March 19,
I had my SP Jain interviews on the 16th. I was to reach the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan at 11.30. So in order to reach early i left my place at around 10. At around 10.40 when i was about 20 minutes away from the interview center I jus felt like having a look at my call letter. The contents of letter really make me feel like . . . (I was to report at 10.30).
Now I don't even have to try to do such things. It just happens. But fortunately not all guys are punctual like the IIMs so when i reached the place a few minutes after 11 I realised that rahul and his ideas are not irrelevant despite some exceptions.
Now SP Jain is different is quite an understatement. The level of student involvement is simply great. Students are take care of everything from the registration to the final interviews.
We had a presentation and at no point did these guys say that there are the best and such. The honesty was refreshing and very evident. In the interviews I did not see a single fresher or a female. Oh I am sorry there was one.
We had a group interview and a gd session. It was a six member group and the panel had five guys. Two profs, two students and a alumni. This was the prelims and then there was to be a test and a couple of rounds of interviews after that.
My gd topic was "MBA is losing its relevance". In my group I felt that there was only one person who spoke sense and you know you it was. So after the group gd interview session some guys were to be short listed. So we six guys sat waiting for the whole thing to come out.
Very soon our results were out and it was informed that four out of six guys were to go for the next rounds. The names were read out. After the third name it was the fourth and it wasn't mine.
In the recent past I did not have an experience even close to that. For a moment I just did not believe it. Then I did the obvious and went to the panel for a feedback. But sadly history did not repeat itself. But the way these guys explained their position made me feel that they were justified. It was very different from what I felt after last year's FMS fiasco.
The told me that I was articulate but they were not happy with my people skills. In other words I was arrogant. I was convinced and so poor me walked out with another kick on my ass. Like it??
