CAT gyan

Hi Guys,

Let me start with the cat. Again it was a three section paper and with just 150 questions in all. The various institutions say that with a score of around 70 you can expect IIM calls. Now I have attempted around 100. But . . . In the english section I misread a whole section and got 5 wrong straightaway and the passages stank. They were long, sick and had very few questions each. I felt that DI was good but as soon as I came out Rahul pointed out a few mistakes of mine. Then my attempts in the quant section was okay but the accuracy is not something that I am very happy with.

So that was how cat was. To be honest I do have a good chance but then when I hear about the mistakes I made I feel creepy. Now I have FMS and IIFT left which will be held somewhere next month. Then I have got a job. Many of you guys had warned me against doing something before cat so I waited and as soon as cat was over I went ahead. So that was the reason for the delay in mailing a reply.

So as I was telling you I have joined up Spectramind. I have joined up for a process that involves technical support. I guess that the client that I will be working for will be Dell computers. We have names for each process and the fellows working in my process are called the TITANS. I will start with them from the 19th and for a month we will be given training that involves some technical and speech. These guys have some very interesting HR policies. There salary structure is something that forces you to stick around. Some of you MBAs should visit the place as it has some very interesting things especially the Max health center that is dedicated to the needs of the spectramind employees. Then much of the non essential things are outsourced. They have a dedicated VSNL gateway installed in the premises. And of the stakeholders include wipro, chrysalis capital and some other big shots. Anyway it's a very interesting case study. Rahul and Kshitija if you want to do some private project on HR challenges then this could be a nice place.

The environment is pretty cool and I will be having a couple of BITians who had been placed with HCL. The interview was pretty cool and when I faced the guys I felt so confident as I have never been in recent times but that's a very different story.

And now let me get a bit personal. I am pretty disappointed with the rahuls and pooja but full marks to anit and shudeep for being such regulars. And i don't want to say anything about jo and everyone knows why. Then I keep meeting Vishal. Nitin and priyank are back in town. Priyank left for moradabad and intends to leave for pune on the 22nd. Nitin will be here till the x'mas day. So I guess that covers all the common info. I will follow it by personal mails to all you guys.

The Incredible Padma Aunty!!

The day before yesterday I spend more than 2 hours, totally mesmerized by the memorial service of Padma Vikraman Nayar , organized by the Singapore Malayali Association (SMA) . I have met her only once, a few years ago, but the eulogies removed any sense of unfamiliarity about her. Padma Aunty as she was popularly called was more of a background person and the extent of eulogies was disproportionate to any of the formal positions, she held within the SMA committee. And most surprisingly, all but one of the speakers on stage were males, mostly past SMA Presidents, a reflection of the authority she commanded during her life. At a personal level, I really struggle with the Malayalam Language and often felt that I was more of a Delhite than a Malayali. Senti side of me

Hi Guys, In the last few months I had a chat with some of you guys. And all of a sudden I realised that I dont have anything to talk about. Rahul and Shilpi called up most in this period and often I just did not know what to say and the forced conversation lasted for not more than a few minutes. Then the mails from regulars like Rahul(Both), Anit and Rohit have actually dried up. It used to be such a pleasure getting a mail from these guys. But somehow today all I see in my inbox is a few fwds and mailers which I very happily block. Now let me admit that Bhanu, Anit and Shuchi have been nice enough to send some thought provoking fwds. But I would be more pleased to get hold of a mail addressed to me. So i thought of asking some of you about how it felt getting my mails.
